Alan Hair is a mineral engineer and senior executive with over 37 years of experience in the mining and metals industry. Mr. Hair is the former President and CEO of Hudbay Minerals Inc., a company he joined in 1996 as a senior operations manager and at which he served in a series of progressively senior roles culminating in the position of President and CEO from 2016 to 2019. During his tenure at Hudbay, Mr. Hair oversaw the successful acquisition, construction, and development of the Constancia Mine in Peru. Mr. Hair holds a BSc in Mineral Engineering from the University of Leeds and the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. He is a Director of Bear Creek Mining Corporation and Gold Royalty Corp.
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Daycock brings over 20 years of financial management and capital markets experience in a commodity industry setting, including seven years in senior management. She joined Great Panther in March 2021 as Vice President, Finance and Treasury, and was appointed CFO in June 2021. Before joining Great Panther, Ms. Daycock served as Director, Corporate Development at Methanex Corporation where she was responsible for leading corporate development initiatives including the valuation, financing and commercial contract development for major methanol projects. She previously served as Director, Investor Relations for Methanex. Sandra has also held financial management positions in the areas of treasury, tax reporting, and financial planning & analysis. Sandra is a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA – CMA B.C.) and she holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Master of Arts in Economics, both from University of Manitoba.
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Cornejo has 20 years of experience in senior management level roles in the mining industry. He was appointed COO of Great Panther in June 2021. Mr. Cornejo joined Great Panther in July 2019 as Vice President of Projects & Technical Services in July 2019 and was promoted to Vice President, Operations Brazil in March 2020.
Before joining Great Panther, Mr. Cornejo served as Vice-President, Projects & Technical Services of Aura Minerals Inc. where he successfully led the re-engineering and subsequent re-start of two open pit and underground mining operations in Brazil and Mexico. Prior to that, he held executive roles with Jacobs Engineering and the SGS Group in Canada, Peru and Mexico. Mr. Cornejo also held operational roles with Rio Tinto in Canada and BHP Billiton, in his native Peru.
Mr. Cornejo holds a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal, a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Nacional de San Agustin Peru, a Master Certificate in Project Management from York University and is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario. Mr. Cornejo is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Vice President, Finance
Mr. Turkington was appointed Vice President, Finance in February 2020.
Mr. Turkington has over 20 years of experience in senior finance and corporate reporting roles. Prior to joining Great Panther, Mr. Turkington worked as an independent consultant providing interim CFO services and IFRS/US GAAP advisory services to companies across a variety of industries. Mr. Turkington was also a founding partner of Breakwater Accounting Advisors LLP, a Vancouver-based professional services firm providing accounting, regulatory compliance and data analysis services primarily to companies in the mining industry. In addition, Mr. Turkington spent six years at Methanex Corporation as Corporate Controller. He has a depth of knowledge and leadership experience in financial management, regulatory compliance and internal controls.
Mr. Turkington holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
Vice President, Exploration
Mr. Winer is a geologist with over 33 years of experience in mineral exploration with a focus on South America, including more than 20 years in Brazil. Prior to joining Great Panther in 2020, he was Vice President, Exploration for AngloGold in Colombia. Previously, he was COO of Horizonte Minerals and has held Exploration Manager positions in Brazil for BHP and AngloGold. He has also held senior exploration positions for BHP in Chile and Ghana. Mr. Winer holds a BSc in Geology and Geophysics from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia and is a member of AusIMM.
Vice President, Social Responsibility
Mrs. Fregonese has over 15 years of experience working in the mining industry in Canada. As Vice President, Social Responsibility leads Great Panther’s overarching social performance and stakeholder engagement strategy. Mrs. Fregonese joined the Company in 2007 and, since 2014, has been committed to advancing the social and sustainable development of the local communities in which Great Panther operates. She is responsible for a diverse portfolio focused on building strategic partnerships and fostering relationships with communities, governments, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to maximize the benefits of mining locally and achieve effective and sustainable community development.
Mrs. Fregonese is a member of the stewardship group of the Social Practice Forum established to provide active leadership on social performance around the world. She also serves as a member of the Board of Women in Mining, BC. Mrs. Fregonese holds a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy (Hons) from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a certified Sustainability Practitioner (CSR-P) certification issued by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
Vice President, Corporate Development
Mr. Shannon brings a blend of finance and technical skillsets to his role at Great Panther. He comes from a technical mining background with experience as a Geologist working for junior explorers and major mining companies including Teck Resources Ltd., Miramar Mining Corp., Equity Exploration Ltd., Falconbridge Ltd. and Placer Dome Inc. Through these roles he has gained a comprehensive understanding of the mining process after having worked on a range of projects from early-stage exploration to mine operations.
Most recently, he served as Director, Investment Banking at RCI Capital Group in Vancouver where he originated and executed natural resource cross border M&A transactions with a focus on inbound capital from Asian trading houses and state-owned enterprises.
Mr. Shannon holds an MBA from Ivey Business School at Western University. He attended the University of Waterloo where he received a BSc. (Hon) in Geology and has a Masters in Geology from the University of British Columbia. He is a CFA charterholder and a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) registered with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
